Two hearts, two countries, one love

Traveling through South America gives you an interesting exploration of many different cultures, histories, and languages. Having visited and lived in multiple countries across the continent, I've come to appreciate the distinct variations not just in accents, but also in everyday language, as influenced by the region's colonial past, European immigration, and indigenous cultures.

It's getting close to a year since my last post, just noticed. Oh well. So it goes. I've unemployed all this time, so there wasn't anything to write about.
Now I am working, not officially employed, but working none the less. I am working as a general laborer. First I did some big yard job for a neighbor - scrapped out all the 1" gravel in their back yard, and then put in some flagstone and 3/8" gravel. Looks real nice.

It's been a couple weeks ago now, but I did a road trip to Kansas City, MO. The purpose of the trip was to pick up a transmission I purchases on ebay. If you have read some of my more recent posts you would have read about the MGB that I bought. The car had been restored about 3 years ago, but apparently that restoration did not include the drive train. I have since found a crack in the cylinder head, and have gotten it repaired, and in reinstalling in broke a stud off in the head, which is where it is at this moment, waiting for me to take to a machine shop to have the broken stud removed.

After a couple very stressful months which included hassles with the insurance company, I've too many days of school and had to drop from the program. I'll either finish on my own at home or finish in the spring semester. I needed to get away from it all. Completely away from everything I am familiar with, so no going back to Washington to visit my sons or brothers or other relatives. No going to any familiar US city. Instead, I essentially threw a dart at the map and went where it landed - Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

I bought a new car, actually an old car - a 1972 MGB. It was restored in '07, I will post pics soon. I bought it in Mesa. Took the bus up there and drove the car home, with the top down, in 100+ degree sunshine. My arms and nose got a bit sunburned, to say the least. but the car is beautiful and runs fantastic. It is my 3rd MG, and something I have been looking forward to buying for a long time.
Pics have been uploaded to the Photo Album, just look for the folder MGB!
