Poem - I Can, I Can't

I am who I am
I can’t be the man of your dreams
I can only be who I am

I can’t be your saving prince, but
I can hold you when you are sad
I can support you when you need to cry

I can’t be your every hope, wish, or dream, but
I can listen when you need an ear
I can reassure you when you feel lost

I can’t be the one you dream about, but
I can love you when you need to be loved
I can accept you for who you are

I can’t change you to be who I want you to be, but
I can love you because of who you are
I can live for you because I love you

I can’t be perfect and I don’t expect you to be, but
I can hold your hand when that is all you need
I can be devoted to you and you alone because of who you are

I am who I am
I hope I am the man of your dreams
I am who I am and I am here for you
